VI EG I Conservation of Resources
(Conservation of Resources)
(i) भूमि संरक्षण
(Recycling)
Conservation of Resources
1. Meaning of Resources
All natural, human, and man-made elements that fulfill human needs and contribute to economic development are called resources.
For example – land, water, forests, minerals, energy, human power, etc.
2. Meaning of Resource Conservation
Resource conservation is the process under which resources are used appropriately, judiciously, systematically, and sustainably so that they remain available for present and future generations.
3. Need for Resource Conservation
Limited resources – Most natural resources are limited.
Population growth – Increased pressure on resources due to growing population.
Over-exploitation – Depletion of resources due to industrialization and urbanization.
Environmental protection – Pollution and climate change due to resource depletion.
Sustainable development – Protecting the rights of future generations. 4. Objectives of Resource Conservation
Long-term use of resources
Maintaining environmental balance
Making economic development sustainable
Equitable distribution of resources
Meeting the needs of future generations
5. Types of Resource Conservation
(a) Conservation of Natural Resources
(i) Land Conservation
Preventing soil erosion
Afforestation and reforestation
Terrace farming
Controlled grazing
(ii) Water Resource Conservation
Rainwater harvesting
Water reuse
Conservation of dams, ponds, and reservoirs
Pollution control
(iii) Forest Resource Conservation
Stopping illegal logging
Social forestry
Wildlife conservation
National parks and sanctuaries
(iv) Mineral Resource Conservation
Limited and scientific use of minerals
Development of alternative resources
Recycling
(v) Energy Resource Conservation
Energy saving
Use of renewable energy
(Solar, wind, hydro, biogas)
(b) Human Resource Conservation
Education and training
Health facilities
Skill development
Employment opportunities
6. Measures for Resource Conservation
Sustainable development policy
Increased use of renewable resources
Recycling and reuse
Public awareness
Government policies and laws
Technological development
7. Resource Conservation Efforts in India
National Forest Policy
Jal Jeevan Mission
National Energy Policy
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Water conservation schemes
8. Conclusion
Resource conservation is essential for the survival of human civilization. If resources are not used judiciously, serious crises may arise in the future. Therefore, resource conservation is the key to sustainable and balanced development.
